Published Monday, June 29, 2009About two months ago the passenger front window on our Audi quit working... If you tried to roll down the window, all you would hear was a grinding noise. We took it into the dealership and were told that it would cost $1,000 to fix the window (since we are out of warranty)!! Because the window was stuck in the up position and we didn't want to pay that much to have it fixed, we decided it wasn't 'critical' and choose to live with it for a few months. Recently the window started to loosen up and would roll down about an inch whenever we were driving. We'd manually push the window back up but it wasn't long before it would creep down again. I started doing some research on various Audi forums and found that this is a very common issue with Audis. Many complained about having to get their windows fixed every 4-5 years!! After a few days of searching I finally found my golden ticket, one Audi owner decided to fix the window himself and posted a DIY manual with very detailed steps & pictures!!! Well, I finally ordered the part (the window regulator) and decided to give it a try this past weekend. I'm happy to say that everything went smoothly and after about 2 hours I had a fully operational window again! Here's a picture of what I found once I popped the window motor off the door. The wire from the regulator somehow got loose and started wrapping itself around the motor. Luckily the motor was fine.
Audi wanted $1,000 to fix it.... I fixed it for $107 and 2 hours of my time. Happy times! -M
