Most of you already know that I play in a softball league but just recently I started playing in a Thursday night adult basketball league in Stockton. My buddy Raul and his co-worker put together the team and chose our team name; Cobra Kai. Yes, as in the Cobra Kai from the Karate Kid movie (don’t ask). Yes, our jerseys have the cobra logo on them!! Now, unlike baseball/softball, I’d never really played on a basketball team before so I thought it’d be a good challenge for me (at least I’d get some exercise out of it). We were originally supposed to be in the ‘Competitive’ league but somehow ended up in the ‘Most Competitive’ league!! I found this fact out about 10 minutes before our first game… Even after finding this out I thought we might be OK… then the game happened… It was obvious that we didn’t belong in this higher league! The only thing that prevented us from getting annihilated was that fact that one of our players went on a 3-point shooting bonanza. We still lost with a score of 60-70 (I had 9 points).

In our second game we weren’t so lucky. We were losing by so much that the referee called the ‘sacrifice’ rule, which means we were losing by more than 30 points with 5 minutes remaining!! These guys were dunking all over us so the sacrifice was somewhat welcome! Anyway, at this point we’re just trying to have fun out there. -M
